Kgosi Ramokwena laid to rest in Maun

Reverend Kgosi Kegaisamang Ramokwena of Boseja Ward was laid to rest in Maun on Saturday.
The 71-year old leader died February 28 due to COVID-19 related complications.
He served as a member of Ntlo ya Dikgosi for Maun region and also as a pastor at Matlapana UCCSA.
Speakers at the funeral described him as a leader of integrity who loved all and a nation builder who did not discriminate according to status.
A message of condolences from the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, acknowledged Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena as a selfless servant who served the nation wholeheartedly for more than 30 years.
Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena, he said, loved his job and believed in consultation and cooperation with the community more so that he was a servant of God.
President Masisi said Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena was a visionary leader who advocated for developments in Maun citing construction of a big shelter at Boseja kgotla as indication that he recognised the role of bogosi.
His wish to have police offices in his ward was also realised.
The message further stated that Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena was devoted and passionate about farming and played a key role in encouraging the community to venture into the same.
The President said Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena’s passing was a great loss to the nation.
Another message from the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Eric Molale indicated that the two had worked together for a considerable period of time.
Mr Molale described Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena as a true embodiment of wisdom, humility and selflessness in executing his mandate as a traditional leader.
Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena, he said, would be remembered for his immense contribution to the overall development of Botswana particularly on issues addressing developments in Maun.
The deceased, he said, would always be remembered for his jolliness, immense knowledge of history and his resourceful contribution to the debates at Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
For his part, Rev. Gabriel Tsuaneng of UCCSA said some people wanted to be given credit when they did not deserve but that was not the case with Rev. Ramokwena as his deeds could be seen by all.
He said he would rest peacefully since he died in the hands of the Lord, adding that his deeds would live and dreams pursued.
Rev. Tsuaneng challenged all to decide the legacy they wanted to leave behind and be certain that the good works would follow them.A representative from Maun UCCSA, Rev. Motlapele Dikole also spoke of Rev. Kgosi Ramokwena’s love for all.
“We went through turbulences together and conquered through prayer. He was more like a son to me and we shared many things,” Rev. Dikole said.
He said he led a respectful life and would indeed rest peacefully.
Kgosi Rev. Ramokwena was an entrepreneur, loved hunting and was a passionate farmer and a member of Hainaveld Farmers Association.
He was appointed headman of arbitration in 1990 a position he held until his passing. ends
