04 Mar 2021
Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Kabo Morwaeng has told Parliament that 58 public officers had been suspended since May 2018.
The minister said 20 people were suspended for a month to six months, 24 for 7 to 12 months and 14 for more than 13 months.
The minister said investigations and rationalisation of departments made it difficult to conclude the cases on time.
He said the officers were suspended for various reasons, among them fraudulent award of driving licences and work permits, corruption and falsifying records. Other reasons for their suspension covered serious criminal activities such as rape and threat to kill.
Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang, MP for Sefhare-Ramokgonami had asked the minister to state the number of public officers who had been suspended since May 2018.
He also wanted the minister to state the length of their suspension, reasons for suspensions that lasted for more than a year and the top three reasons for their suspensions. Ends
