Refurbishment to increase isolation capacity

04 Mar 2021

An emergency refurbishment of Ghanzi old hospital to increase the capacity of COVID 19 isolation centres is underway, Ghanzi east sub-district council chairperson, Mr Gabriel Nguahoka has said.

In his address during the official opening of the sub-council recently, Mr Nguahoka said the existing isolation centres had proved to be insufficient to handle the cases that continued to grow.

He stated many patients were on home isolation as the areas reserved for isolation centres were at full capacity.

Ghanzi DHMT coordinator, Mr Conrad Ntsuape stated that following an increase in numbers of COVID-19 clients coming from isolation presenting severe symptoms, they (Ghanzi DHMT) took a decision to start the renovation of some rooms at Ghanzi old hospital.

He said the work started on February 20 with the de-bushing of yards and cleaning of the rooms.

Mr Ntsuape updated the sub-council that by March 2, the district had registered 821 cases cumulatively, of which 144 were active cases. He said they had registered 9 deaths related to COVID-19. BOPA
