CAAB appoints director of finance
03 Mar 2021
Civil Aviation Authority Botswana (CAAB) has enhanced its financial team by re-introducing the position of Director of Finance and Procurement in 2019. Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Sekgokgo said this in response to a question in Parliament on Tuesday.
Minister Segokgo said the CAAB had engaged external auditors since 2016/17 financial year and it had improved the organisation’s financial reporting. He said the backlog of financial reports had been cleared.
The CAAB, he said, received P155 million from government during the 2016/17 financial year, P219 million in the 2017/18 financial year and P150 million in 2018/19 financial year.
For the 2019/20 financial year, the organisation received P150 million and during the 2020/21 financial year it was allocated P128 million. Minister Segokgo said the CAAB had been receiving subvention from government since its inception.
He further said the post of CEO had been vacant since December 2018 and a suitable candidate had been identified and expected to report for duty on May 1. MP Goretetse Kekgonegile of Maun East had asked the minister to brief the House on measures undertaken to create a prudent financial management and reporting system paradigm shift at CAAB.
He further asked the minister to clarify the financial years the company received subventions from government in the last five years and the reasons the CAAB did not get subventions in the past. MP Kekgonegile also wanted to know if the company had appointed a CEO and if not, when the appointment would be done. ENDS
