Advocate Nels services free
03 Mar 2021
Nothing has been paid to Advocate Gerrie Nel as the services provided were free of charge and the work was considered for the public good.
This was said by the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi in Parliament on March 2.
Mr Mmusi said Advocate Nel was engaged due to his reputation as a prosecutor and legal practitioner with vast experience in criminal law and experience in prosecutions of complex organised crime.
He said his agreement with the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was still in force. The DPP does not have any agreement or any form of relationship with Afri Forum and nothing is due and payable from the government of Botswana, he said.
He was answering a question from Serowe North MP, Mr Baratiwa Mathoothe, who had asked the minister to state if they had terminated their agreement with Advocate Nel and Afri Forum.
He also wanted to know the total amount due to the advocate and how much had been paid to date and how much more the government had to pay in total. ENDS
