Some United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) leaders in Maun have described as a serious blow, the passing on Sunday of Rev. Kegaisamang Ramokwena.
Speaking in an interview, they said Rev. Ramokwena had left a huge gap in both the church and the wider Ngamiland community.
They said the words of St Paul to Timothy that he had fought the good fight were applicable in Rev. Ramokwena’s case as he worked tirelessly in God’s ministry and Ngamiland.
They said they were grieving and celebrating the life of a great man, who selflessly served the church and the community. Rev. Ramokwena was a self-supporting minister at Matlapana Local Church and died on Sunday after a short illness.
Leaders described him as an asset to UCCSA, especially in the Bojanala Region, which is made up of Ghanzi and Ngamiland districts.
Rev. Boikobo Nthobatsang of Maun UCCSA said Rev. Ramokwena was a dedicated servant of God who fought a noble battle to save many souls.
He said his passing had left a huge gap in the region which was facing a serious shortage of full time ministers as there were currently only two.
Saying he met Rev. Ramokwena in 2019, he described him as a father, a jovial and a true leader, who served God with an open heart using with his own resources.
“It is a pity that the church has lost a resourceful icon who lived by his faith and words. Our fellow colleague was very passionate about his job and his demise is a serious blow to our region,” Rev. Nthobatsang said.
For his part, Rev. Motlapele Dikole said the deceased significantly contributed to the growth and development of the church and its congregation.
Rev. Ramokwena, he said, believed in giving to the house of the Lord and contributed generously towards the development and establishment of some local churches in the region.
Narrating his spiritual journey, Rev. Dikole said Rev. Ramokwena loved God and the church from a young age. He said he did his two-year internship at Sehithwa church extension in 2002 after completing his diploma in theology from Kgolagano College.
He was ordained in 2002 and appointed as a self-supporting minister for Nokaneng/Tsau church before being transferred to Shakawe in 2005.
In 2016, he was appointed to lead Matlapana extension until it became an independent local church in 2018.
Rev. Galeganwe Mbulawa, who grew up with the deceased, attested to Rev. Ramokwena’s generosity saying he contributed meaningfully to the establishment of Boseja church.
“For, Rev. Ramokwena giving was coming from his heart not his riches. I can recall that he donated money, furniture and other resources towards the establishment of the church. He also spent his resources towards the needy,” she said. She said Rev. Ramokwena had played and achieved his godly purpose during his entire life as evidenced by his good deeds.
He was an icon who left a legacy that needed to be maintained, said Rev.Mbulawa. Ends
