Organisation appeals for assistance

Vaswisu Charity Organisation is seeking public assistance to drive an objective of collecting sanitary pads for pupils who cannot afford them.
Vaswisu is a non-profit making organisation formed by youth and aims to help people from different backgrounds.
The organisation’s public relations officer, Mr Kaboyaone Akanyang said Vaswisu was formed in 2014 and officially registered last year November.
He said other objectives included improving the learners’ and youth’s literacy skills by availing to them the necessary resources and facilities, offer assistance and guidance to the skilled as well as providing life skills and socio-economic empowerment.
Mr Akanyang said menstruation was a natural process and sanitary pads were a necessity, adding that assisting the girl-child with pads was the first step towards building their self-confidence.
He said that the help would also enable them to keep up with school work because they would not have to miss classes when on their periods.
Mr Akanyang shared that every pack of pads donated empowered, inspired hope and touched those in need.
He said though it was not going to address all the challenges faced by the girl-child, but would help them focus on what was important, education.
Mr Akanyang reckoned that armed with a good education, girls could be saved from child marriages, teenage pregnancies and GBV.
He was also upbeat about the positives that could be realised through the donation saying ‘retention and completion of studies by teenage girls will improve and this will enhance their chances of a better future.
They will be comfortable knowing they have the right protection and will also be confident and that will boost their self- esteem.’
Mr Akanyang said Vaswisu has had other successful initiatives such as Tlatsa Class ka Buka, where they gathered books for Seolwane primary pre-classes and have also presented gifts to three JC top achievers and three BGCSE top achievers who were former Seolwane primary learners, last year. The organisation hopes to have collected the pads by end of March. Ends
