Airfield project discontinued
28 Feb 2021
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo, says his ministry, through the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) carried out a project for the design and relocation of the new airfield in Hukuntsi, which was completed in 2011 during NDP10.
Responding to a Parliament question on Friday, Mr Segokgo said that the project was discontinued due to the economic meltdown in 2010. He explained that his ministry was not planning to construct an airport/airfield in Hukuntsi under National Development Plan (NDP) 11 due to financial constraints.
However, Minister Segokgo said government would assess the inclusion of the relocation of the airfield during NDP 12. The MP for Kgalagadi North, Ms Talita Monnakgotla had asked the minister to state when the ministry would construct an airport in Hukuntsi as the plot had long been allocated. ENDS
