Kgosi Masie applauds police services

28 Feb 2021

Kgosi Lebogang Masie of Taung village has commended the Botswana Police Service (BPS) for caring about the wellbeing of the communities they work within.

Kgosi Masie gave the accolades during a handing over of a house donated to the Mogotsi family by the BPS.

He said the police had shown interest in contributing to the betterment of the lives of communities around the country, as they did not only focus on their policing duties.

“You are not only here to fight crime, you have proved to care for the community,” he said.

The Botswana Police Service Deputy Commissioner (Operations), Ms Dinah Marathe said they were proud to have joined other organisations in responding to the call for the provision of shelter to the less privileged members of the community.

She said for the police, social responsibility programmes promoted mutually beneficial relationships in ushering in hope, dignity and the development of deserving beneficiaries.

Ms Marathe said social responsibility further promoted customer relations, building goodwill and strengthening organizational image, adding that the police considered members of the community to be their primary customers, hence giving back to them.

“Complementing their welfare is relevant and compelling, especially considering their voluntary participation in matters of public security or their support in the delivery of our mandate,” she added.

Further, Ms Marathe said mutual relations between the police and community had grown over the years and continued to contribute significantly to the nation’s peace and building the security agenda.

She said the construction of the house was not without challenges, key among them being financial constraints and COVID-19 distress.

For his part, South Central Divisional Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Matthews Letsholo said the project was started in 2018, for the late Ms Tiny Mogotsi, adding that although the intended beneficiary did not live to see the completed project, her children would benefit.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Letsholo said with the help of the community, they were able to raise P130 000 for the project.

On behalf of the family, Ms Pearl Mogotsi thanked the police for the donation and promised to care for the house. Ends
