Moshupa Sub District, just like other parts of the country, is under siege from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Acting Sub Council chairperson, Mr Obakeng Modisaotsile said this when officially opening the ongoing meeting. He said the sub district recently experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases which forced some offices to close temporarily.
Mr Modisaotsile said 465 confirmed cases were recorded across the sub district, out of which 339 had recovered. He said 126 were still active and that there was one death.
Among the active cases, some were at Ditsweletse Clinic, Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital in Gaborone and Moshupa Boys Prisons while others were in home isolation and stable.Mr Modisaotsile said most of the patients were asymptomatic and he feared there could be more silent transmissions in the sub district. He implored residents to continue abiding by all health protocols to save lives.
The chairperson also seized the opportunity to applaud frontline workers for putting their lives on the line to save the nation, and further sent condolences to families who had lost loved ones to the pandemic.
On other issues, Mr Modisaotsile said government had introduced a financial relief programme to assist the youth, athletes and artists who had lost their means of survival due to restrictions on events.
He said the assistance was for youth entrepreneurs, arts and culture practitioners as well as President’s Day registered participants and COSBOTS, CIPA registered practitioners and professional athletes.
