The road between Kgomokasitwa and Tshweneyagae in Kanye North constituency was designed during the 2008/2009 financial year by Pula Consultants under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Answering a parliamentary question, Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo said the design documents were handed to the ministry subsequent to the road handover process, adding that consultancy services for the design works costed P1 177 895.

Mr Segokgo said the design for the project would still be relevant during implementation, but that due to passage of time, it might  require a design review prior to commencement of construction works.

Regarding maintenance of the road, Mr Segokgo said it was not maintained as a stand alone section, but as a link of Tshweneyagae-Kgomokasitwa-Magotlhwane through dry grading by in-house crews. He added that where funding permitted, it outsourced the works to the private sector by dry grading and spot improvement.

The minister further noted that the amount spent on grading and maintaining the road since completion of design to date was over P6.6 million.

Kanye North MP, Mr Thapelo Letsholo had asked if the design for the road between Kgomokasitwa and Tshwaneyagae had ever been done, how much was spent, and if the design was still  relevant.

He also wanted to know the annual costs with regard to grading and maintaining the road since completion of the design to date. ENDS
