24 Feb 2021

Adoption of fervent awareness strategies for sensitising Matopi residents about COVID-19 has been credited for the settlement’s clean coronavirus record.

Matopi Clinic principal registered nurse Ms Lamodimo Saul told BOPA in an interview Tuesday that the settlement was yet to record a COVID-19 positive case because of the awareness strategies employed.

She said posters, teachings at the clinic, use of public address system across the village, had proven worthwhile in the fight against COVID-19.

“We have also engaged nine Red Cross officials to conduct house to house campaigns,” she said.

She gave residents of the North East District settlement located 20 km from Matsiloje a pat on the back for resolving to follow health protocols to the letter.

A police officer stationed at Matopi, Sergeant Dipogiso Digapeng concurred that Matopi populace of 361, as per the 2011 population census, was generally law abiding.

The village’s court clerk, Ms Tshoganetso Matenge said the village leadership had been pivotal in raising COVID-19 awareness citing Village Development Committee, Village Extension Team as well as the Farmers Committee which were conduits for spreading the message. ENDS
