BNSC BOKA clarify hosting of champs

24 Feb 2021

Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) and Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) have clarified an announcement that Botswana will host Commonwealth Karate Championships in 2023.

A statement from the two organisations indicates that while BOKA was granted permission by BNSC to bid for the hosting rights of the championships in 2024, the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF), in consideration of prevailing circumstances offered Botswana an opportunity to host in 2023 instead.

It further says, since Botswana’s bid was premised on the championships taking place in 2024, in consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to policy, funding and logistics, hosting the championships in 2023 had not been approved by either BNSC or government.

The press release states that the offer by CFK for 2023 was still under consideration and a decision thereon could go either way, adding that once a position had been taken, stakeholders would be informed accordingly. ENDS
