Administrative authority waiting list at 155 000
24 Feb 2021
The Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) has reported a cumulative waiting list of 155 008 applications from its three sub-land boards for residential and arable fields.
Opening the sub-council meeting on Tuesday, the sub-council chairperson, Mr Allen Jacob, stated that Lephepe and Molepolole only managed to allocate 43 and 24 plots in residential and arable fields respectively.
The low number of plots allocations, he said, was because there were no readily available layout plots available for allocations in the sub-district.
“We are very much aware of the need for plots allocations to reduce overcrowding of families and the situation was also likely to compromise food production due to delays in allocating land,” he said.
He cited Lentsweletau and Molepolole sub-land boards as areas with the high numbers of people on the waiting list; 75 651 and 75 242 applicants respectively, while Lephepe has a total of 4 115 for residential and arable fields and that a total of 364 plots of various uses had been transferred from their rightful owners.
The situation on land transfers called for district leadership’s intervention to discourage communities against such a habit.
He called on expediting plots developments to avoid double allocations and unnecessary encroachment into other’s plots.
He also briefed councillors about numbers of impediments hampering the sub-district’s efforts to have adequate water supply in some areas of Kweneng particularly Molepolole, Kopong, and Thebephatswa Camp.
The situation, the chairperson indicated, was mainly due to high water losses resulting from dilapidated infrastructure and constant borehole breakdowns at Gaotlhobogwe well-field as well as limited storage capacity in the existing network.
To address the issue Mr Jacob said ministry of Land Management Water and Sanitation Services, as a long-term solution, will improve water situation, through Gamononyane-Molepolole Thebephatshwa water project infrastructure planned to commence in April.
Areas to be covered are Molepolole, Gamodubu, Mmanoko, Kopong, Lentsweletau, Medie, Kweneng and Dikgatlhong villages.
As for Molepolole water and sanitation project he said it will upgrade and rehabilitate dilapidated network as well as increase storage capacity. The project scope will include construction of sewage network and construction of two additional ponds as existing ones have passed the design life.
Tribal administration, lamented an outstanding P1.9 million P91 570 over defaulters and compensations respectively due to migration of defaulters in and around Mogoditshane and Molepolole villages. ENDS
