Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) will host an invitational tournament slated for Botswana National Youth Council training halls in Gaborone on February 27.

In an interview on Monday, BTTA vice president-technical, Kabo Mosarwe, indicated that top 16 ranking players from both female and male categories had been invited to the tournament. 

Phoenix Assurance Group Botswana sponsored the monetary prizes. 

Mamnathan and Associates, he said, would sponsor meal vouchers for participants valued at P230 each and Stag International would sponsor with equipment.

Mosarwe highlighted that due to COVID-19 restrictions on the number of people per gathering, BTTA had resolved to reduce the number of participants at tournaments, hence the decision to invite only top 16 ranking players, noting that spectators would not be allowed.

Mosarwe indicated that champions from both categories would walk away with P3 000 each, silver medalists P1 500 while semifinalists would each get P750.

According to communication from BTTA, only registered participants with their masks on would be allowed entry at the venue and two coaches for players would be allowed to coach during the tournament.

It further stated that BTTA ranking would be used to seed the players onto the tournament ladder and tournament results would be used to add to the new BTTA Tournament ranking 2020/21 results and seed for the next tournament.The communication indicated that all matches would be officiated by BTTA appointed umpires in accordance with International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) handbook. ends
