Police search for missing man

22 Feb 2021

Police in Letlhakane are investigating the disappearance of a 63-year-old man who has been missing since 12 February 2021.

Letlhakane Station Commander, Mr Michael Maphephu said the missing person, who is mentally challenged, was left alone at the cattle post about eight kilometres away from Mmatshumo.

He said the family embarked on a search and saw the missing person’s footprints along the Mmatshumo-Letlhakane road, and reported the matter to the police after their efforts proved futile.

He said a search was started immediately with teams covering areas such as Tsutsuga, Mosu and Letlhakane, but that their efforts did not bear fruit.

Mr Maphephu urged members of the public to guard their mentally challenged family members at all times, and implored members of the public to immediately report cases of missing family members.

He lamented the increase in missing persons cases in Boteti, revealing that he was the fourth person to disappear.

For his part, Kgosi Keletshwaretse Phetsogang of Mmatshumo cautioned the public and traditional healers against using human parts for ritual purposes.

He said the practise seemed to be increasing at an alarming rate in the sub district.ends
