Declining results worry MP

03 Oct 2013

The Assistant Minister of Agriculture Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi has expressed disappointment with the reduced pass rate of standard seven results at Ramokgonami Primary School.

Mr Molebatsi said the school’s pass rate has been on a downward spiral over the past five years with no signs of improvement. He was speaking at the prize giving ceremony of Ramokgonami Primary School recently.

“My wish is to see the examinations results improving and this can only be achieved through partnership with all the relevant stakeholders, he said. Mr Molebatsi explained that in 2008 the school got 60 per cent pass rate, 58 per cent in 2009 and 54percent in 2010. The results improved slightly in 2011 when Ramokgonami Primary School attained a 62percent pass rate, only to go down to 53percent in 2012.

He encouraged management to come up with strategies that will help them curb the trend of failing as it looks like it is now becoming a norm.

“The school has not changed that much over the years because its objectives have remained consistent while equipment has kept up with technological changes. But all these changes have been gradual rather than sudden and massive,” he said.

Mr Molebatsi said education is the key to a better future as it moulds a child and helps in the child’s holistic development. He urged all stakeholders to ensure that every child has an opportunity to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams.

He said parents must have confidence that the education system will meet their children’s needs and mould them into better people as they move into adulthood. He further urged parents and teachers to keep in constant communication, saying educating children is a partnership between teachers and parents.

“We must motivate these children and give them a chance to become sound, creative and innovative. All stakeholders must be in constant communication to ensure that this dream becomes a reality,” he said. ENDS
