Sikwane Primary School secures top 10 spot

21 Feb 2021

Member of Parliament for Kgatleng East, Mr Mabuse Pule has commended Sikwane Primary School leadership for securing a spot on the nation’s top 10 2020 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results.

Mr Pule, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, said this during his visit to the school.

He said the school’s academic performance was commendable, noting that ‘a conducive environment leads to positive results.’

MP Pule said the impressive results showed that teachers were dedicated to their work. He further applauded the school head and her team for working together and building a strong team for the benefit of learners.

He said it was remarkable to see a teacher being patient with learners to a point where learners excelled academically.

For his part, area councillor, Mr Seth Sekate appreciated the good work done by Sikwane school teachers, saying the good performance indicated that they had the interests of pupils at heart.

“One thing that I have picked about teachers in this school is that they work as a team and try their best to ensure that the environment is conducive for learning. They also try to involve parents in pupil’s academic work,” he said.

He said although the support was minimal, the pupil’s academic performance was satisfactory.

Giving a brief background on the school’s academic performance over the past few years, Sikwane Primary School head, Ms Phetolo Gopolang said in 2018, 20 pupils sat for the PSLE.

She said the A-B quality pass mark was 55 per cent while the A-B-C pass mark stood at 85 per cent.

“What was even more interesting about these results was that out of the 37 schools in Kgatleng our ABC quality pass mark brought us to number two, with ABC quality pass mark bringing us to number 8,” she added.

In 2019 the school had 22 pupils sitting for PSLE and their AB quality pass mark stood at 40.9 per cent while ABC quality pass mark stood at 72.7 per cent.

She added that in 2020, Sikwane school’s AB quality pass mark was 64.3 per cent and ABC quality pass mark stood at a whopping 100 per cent, placing the school at number seven countrywide. She said the school currently had 167 pupils.

Ms Gopolang, however, lamented that teachers struggled to get promotions though they produced good results consecutively. ENDS
