Mahalapye internal roads in bad state

17 Feb 2021

Though Mahalapye village is the first main location on the A1 route from Gaborone to the north, catering for a large volume of traffic, its internal roads are in a bad state.

Speaking during the ongoing Mahalapye Sub-district Council session on February 15, council chairperson, Mr Banthasetse Merementsi said the potholes were exacerbated by lack of major road maintenance for quite a long time as well as  poor storm water drainage in the village.

He said Mahalapye was last funded under the Road Levy Fund during the 2016/2017 financial year.

As a way of solving the current situation, Mr Merementsi said they would send proposals to the council headquarters to see how the levy could benefit the sub-district.

He said the Ipelegeng programme would also be used to assist in desilting the existing channels to aid the flow of water in the village.

Mr Merementsi said financial programmes such as Constituency Community Projects (CCP) fundswould be used to address the situation.

On other issues, the council chairperson informed councillors that primary schools had been supplied for the feeding programme, while vulnerable groups feeding was not done in all health facilities due to delayed lab tests results. ends
