16 Feb 2021
The Southern District commissioner, Mr Mmoloki Raletobana says he is worried by the escalating number of COVID-19 cases in the Good Hope Sub-district.
He said the case numer growth was exacerbated by pupils not adhering to the health protocols, especially at Good Hope Senior Secondary school.
He told BOPA in an interview that pupils did not wear masks properly, did not sanitise and did not practice social distancing.
However, he said he had visited the school and was happy that the infrastructure was good enough to accommodate the pupils who were in isolation and those who needed to be quarantined.
Mr Raletobana said 168 pupils tested positive and 315 were quarantined, while at Mariba Junior Secondary School in Mabule nine students tested positive and 19 were quarantined.
He said the infrastructure at Mariba was not up to standard, adding however that the district had urgently intervened to rectify the situation.
Mr Raletobana urged the pupils to adhere to the protocols because the numbers of those testing positive were increasing. ends
