Molefi school gets P1.6m for maintenance

16 Feb 2021

Minister of Basic Education, Mr Fidelis Molao has said Molefi Senior Secondary School was allocated P1.6 million to carry out minor maintenance and ensure compliance to COVID-19 protocols in the 2020/21 financial year.

Answering a question in Parliament on Monday, Mr Molao said the school had started with refurbishment of some of the classrooms, replacement of broken windows, and repairs to the dining hall, school library and toilets.

In addition, he mentioned that some ceilings were replaced, wash stations installed and repairs carried out to the pupils hostels.

Mr Molao further said his ministry was in the process of procuring furniture for a number of schools and Molefi Senior Secondary School would also be assisted.

Furthermore, Minister Molao said Molefi Senior Secondary School had gone for a long time without major maintenance, adding that the school would be given some funding in 2021/22 financial year to address some of its maintenance requirements.

Regarding the high water bill at the school, Mr Molao indicated the issue had been addressed with a new float valve fitted to the high level tank which was subject to overflow and wastage.

Mochudi East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule, had asked the minister if he was aware that Molefi Senior Secondary School was in a very bad state of disrepair as there was no cyclic maintenance, a lot of termites and high water bills resulting from rusty and leaking water pipes, shortage of furniture for both learners and teachers.

MP Pule further wanted to know what the ministry was doing to address the situation. Ends
