COVID-19 delays vacancy filling

It has not been possible to call kgotla meetings to fill the vacant post of Kgosi at Majwanaadipitse kgotla due to the limited number of people allowed to gather as provided for by COVID-19 protocols .
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele told Parliament on Monday that once the restrictions on public gatherings were lifted, all vacant positions of Bogosi across the country would be filled.
Mr Modukanele said he was aware of the vacant position at Majwanaadipitse Customary Court which became vacant in March 2020. He however explained that the Bogosi Act required that any vacant position of Kgosi be filled through consultation with the community assembled in a kgotla meeting. Serowe South legislator, Mr Baratiwa Mathoothe had asked the minister of Local Government and Rural Development if he was aware of the vacant post of Kgosi at the
Majwanaadipitse kgotla.MP Mathoothe also wanted the minister to state how long the post had been vacant and when he intended filling it as it had resulted in a backlog of cases. Ends
