Rural based officers deserve to be rewarded

Public servants who work in rural areas deserve to be rewarded for their selfless dedication to service, says Vice President Slumber Tsogwane.
Mr Tsogwane, who was visiting flood hit villages in his Boteti constituency, said rural based public officers encountered challenges in an endeavour to deliver services.
Citing the recent floods in Boteti, the vice president said some officers had to risk their health and walked barefoot without any protective clothing to rescue flood victims.
The vice president expressed appreciation for the commitment and dedication demonstrated by the officers.
Emphasising that working in rural areas was a calling which needed compassionate people, he said public servants based in the countryside must go beyond the call of duty.
He said government recognised the spirit of volunteerism and those who went over and above the call of duty.
Mr Tsogwane said to prevent flooding in future, the plan was to solicit funds for a storm water drainage project.
He donated food hampers to flood victims.
Briefing the vice president, Boteti principal social welfare officer Mr Victor Thake stated that there were eight flood victims in Mokobaxane and 12 in Mopipi.
Another official, senior assistant council secretary Mr Milton Keitshokile, explained that machinery was used to drain water from people’s yards with the help of Debswana.
Mr Keitshokile said since floods were becoming a regular occurrence, it was important that social welfare officers be supplied with protective clothing.ends
