Police in Tutume are investigating an incident in which a 53-year-old man of Timbi Ward in Tutume is suspected to have killed his wife before hanging himself.

In an interview yesterday, Assistant Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang said they received a report of a suspected conflict and a fire at the couple’s house at around midnight on Tuesday.

ASP Kgosiemang said the police and fire brigade unit responded to the report and gained access into the couple’s house by breaking the door and there was fire, while both the wife and husband were lying motionless on the floor.

The woman could have been stabbed with a sharp object on the throat and had fire burns on her shoulders.

He stated that the man had a rope around his neck with another piece still hanging from the rafters and he also had fire burns on the head.

ASP Kgosiemang said the two were rushed to Tutume Primary Hospital where the woman was certified dead while the man was taken to Nyangabgwe Refererral Hospital in Francistown where he was admitted with serious fire burns, but unfortunately also passed on.

He said indications are that the couple had marital problems for which they once sought families’ intervention. ENDS
