Nxaraga can be school of excellence - chair

10 Feb 2021

Maun Administrative Authority chairperson, Mr Vepaune Moreti, has called on parents to work closely with teachers to improve the quality of education.

Officiating at a two-day training for the newly elected Nxaraga Primary School Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), Mr Moreti said parents’ involvement was one of the best ways to create a positive learning environment.

He urged PTA members to mobilise parents to play their role and brand the satellite school, which had since been upgraded into a fully-fledged primary school.

He said educating a child needed collaborative efforts, therefore parents should attend PTA meetings and develop the habit of checking their children’s books.

The chairperson also expressed concern that some parents had neglected their role in the upbringing of their children, noting that parental involvement helped to improve a child’s social skills and behaviour.

Acting principal community development officer, Mr Obakwe Tsholofelo, urged PTA members to work hand in hand with other village structures to make the school a centre of excellence.

He also encouraged them to familiarise themselves with the District Handbook, which outlined all committees and their relationships.

Mr Tsholofelo said teamwork was paramount, hence they should work with other stakeholders, who were determined to contribute meaningfully towards performance improvement as well as development of the school.

He cited organisations such as Save Wildlife, saying it had assisted in the establishment of a reception class as well as donating chairs, tables and equipment for the school’s playground.

Members were also drilled on group dynamics and the need to work as a unit, developing a shared vision, unity of purpose and strong leadership to move the team in the right direction.

Mr Tsholofelo urged the PTA members to share information, ensure effective communication and use consensus for major decisions.

The area councillor, Mr Morolong Mosimanyana, said a strong PTA, if properly harnessed, could make the education system more responsive to the needs of learners.

He assured new members of his unwavering support in turning things around at the school. ENDS
