Nswazi Spar has donated food hampers worth about P6 000 to 20 residents of Ipopeng Ward in Francistown.

The recipients, some elderly and others living with disabilities, received maize meal, sugar, coffee, cooking oil, mayonnaise, tomato sauce and rice.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Tuesday, Ipopeng Ward Development Committee (WDC) chairperson, Ms Kedibonye Lekang, commended Nswazi Spar staff for the donation.

She noted that the relationship between Ipopeng Ward Community and Nswazi Spar went as far back as 2016.

Ms Lekang said with assistance from Nswazi Spar, some in Ipopeng Ward had an opportunity to attend tree planting trainings, a house built for a needy resident and there had been yearly Christmas food hampers donated to the less privileged.

“We are really grateful for the continuous support we get from Nswazi Spar,” Ms Lekang Stated.

Nswazi Spar liquor store manager, Ms Lorraine Ditshane said due to COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s recipients did not receive their donations, hence donating now.

She acknowledged that the start of the year was financially challenging for many and hoped the donations would be of help to them.

Ms Ditshane advised the recipients to always comply with health protocols by wearing masks and sanitising hands.

Area councilor, Ms Jenamiso Mojaki, appealed to Nswazi Spar to extend support to Ipopeng Ward schools, some of which were faced with adding numerous challenges.

A parent to one of the recipients, Ms Sarah Maoloka said it was not the first time Nswazi Spar assisted her son who was living with disability.

She said they donated a wheel chair to him, two years back. ENDS
