Letlhakeng Sub District is reportedly facing a myriad of COVID-19 related challenges.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA on Monday, Letlhakeng Sub-district deputy district commissioner, Ms Ikgopoleng Lekoape said chief among the challenges were shortage of transport for contact tracing and lack of funds to service vehicles.
She said the ongoing measles campaign had exacerbated the situation.
According to the deputy district commissioner, another challenge was shortage of facilities to house COVID-19 positive patients forcing people to isolate at home.
She said there were already 18 people on home isolation.
Ms Lekoape said the increase in positive cases in the sub-district was worrisome and called for vigilance as well as compliance to all protocols.
She said last week Friday, 32 Mphuthe Junior Secondary School boarding and day scholars tested positive for COVID-19 and were taken to Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School hostels, where a temporary quarantine camp had been set up.
Ms Lekoape said immediately after that, a contact tracing exercise was carried out in Letlhakeng to ascertain the extent of the spread.
Ms Lekoape said cumulatively, the sub-district had recorded 182 cases, with 164 recoveries, one death and 377 contacts on home quarantine.
She urged all to take responsibility for their lives and those of others by wearing masks, sanitizing and ceasing unnecessary movements and visits.BOPA
