All should be responsible for their health - Motshegwa
08 Feb 2021
The public has been advised to take responsibility for their health.
Updating the nation on the Ministry of Health and Wellness’, “Kgang Ke Eng” campaign on Btv yesterday, its chief public relations officer Ms Doreen Motshegwa said the drive compelled everyone to probe their health status.
Health, she explained, was the backbone of the economy as it affected the entire productivity chain.
For that reason it was important for all to take care of their health, Ms Motshegwa said.
Ms Motshegwa said the campaign encouraged the public to be involved and be engaged in all health issues.
She said the ministry was using various channels of communication to reach the public to ensure the efficacy of the campaign.
Currently, the public was engaged through social media where people were able to share their concerns and advise, particularly with regard to COVID-19 isolation and quarantine, she said.
Ms Motshegwa said the main concern was the increasing COVID-19 cases in Botswana which was making it difficult for hospitals to admit all patients.
With the channels of communication in place, the ministry was able to share ideas on how best the public could be responsible for their health whilst isolating at home, she said.
Ms Motshegwa encouraged employers to ensure safety of their employees at the workplace taking into account the “Kgang Ke Eng” campaign.
She encouraged management to be supportive of the initiative and urged local authorities to lead the campaign and ensure its success.
The campaign was launched last December with the intention to sensitise the members of the public on health issues affecting their day to day lives as well as providing them with information to empower them to make informed decisions regarding their health.
The campaign’s slogan is a tag or theme for the messaging that the ministry will be producing for the public.
It is also intended to be a stimulus to the community to cultivate a sense of vigilance on health issues.BOPA
