Botswana making good progress on vaccine acquisition
07 Feb 2021
Government is making good progress towards securing the much needed COVID-19 vaccine contrary to inaccurate and misleading reports that Botswana will wait until 2023 for it, says Office of the President (OP).
In a press statement, OP advises the public to ignore and dismiss the grossly inaccurate and misleading allegations in the Sunday Standard newspaper February 7 edition.
It reiterates that as announced by Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Edwin Dikoloti on February 4, government has embarked on an initiative to acquire, and quickly deploy safe and secure vaccines for Botswana citizens and residents.
The statement further says government has thus far identified different platforms for the procurement of vaccines and that payments have already been made to secure various vaccines.
Coordination structures have been set up to ensure the ethical, equitable and timely distribution of the vaccine across the country; says the statement.
It reassures the public that more information on the deployment and vaccination plan will be shared within a reasonably short period of time. Ends
