Restrictions hinder headmen appointments
07 Feb 2021
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Seabelo Modukanele, says it has been difficult to fill in vacant positions in Palapye Tribal Authority due to restrictions on kgotla meetings.
He said under the Bogosi Act, there had to be consultations with communities, adding that the positions would be filled once the pandemic restrictions were lifted.
Responding to a follow up question from Palapye MP, Mr Oneetse Ramogapi, he acknowledged that the tribal offices were facing a heavy workload but said they sought assistance from other offices within the Central District.
Palapye MP Ramogapi had asked the minister to state the number of vacant posts in Palapye from Senior Tribal Authority up to Headman of Arbitration.
He also wanted to know why it takes long to fill the posts even when there are no disputes and when will the minister ensure that the vacant posts are filled. ends
