Batswana have been urged to adapt to the set preventative measures to avoid contracting the coronavirus.
In an interview with BOPA yesterday, District Health Management Team head for Tutume Sub-district, Dr Irvin Kgetse lamented the increase in the number of positive cases in the district since the beginning of the year.
Blaming the increase on the mass movement of people during the festive season, he said to date, there were 239 confirmed cases compared to 26 before the holidays.
Dr Kgetse said 41 of the 239 cases were active, 11 were in Francistown and Matsiloje isolation centres while the remaining 30 had been placed under home isolation. He revealed that the sub-district had so far recorded four deaths.
Dr Kgetse stated that generally residents were aware of the coronavirus and many were doing their best to adhere to the health protocols, particularly the elderly.
However, Dr Kgetse said there were challenges with young people whom he said disregarded the set preventative measures.
The DHMT head thus urged parents to talk to their children about the importance of adhering to the health protocols.
Government, he stated, was doing everything possible to protect the nation therefore it was up to individuals to do their part by following the protocols.
Dr Kgetse commended the political and traditional leaders for playing their part in the fight against the pandemic. ends
