Softball World Cup’s African qualifiers for Under 23 men and senior men have been postponed due to the increase in COVID-19 infections in South Africa.
The qualifiers were supposed to take place from February 19 to 28 in South Africa.
A communication from African Baseball and Softball Association (ABSA), says the qualifiers tournament for under 23 men would instead take place from June 24 to 27 in South Africa.
It further states that qualifiers tournament for senior men would take place from August 25 to 29.
In an interview, Botswana Softball Association (BSA), public relations officer, Thato Matenge, said the national U-23 team would report for selection and conditioning camp on Sunday.
He indicated that the team would undergo COVID-19 test before getting into camp.
A total of 36 players, he said, would report for camp, adding that only 25 players would be selected to join the final team.
“The 25 players will then come for the second camp, which will prepare them for qualifiers tournament,” he added. The team will be led by head coach, Meshack Bonang and five other technical team members.
The Inaugural World Baseball Softball Confederation Under 23 championships were scheduled for Argentina in August this year. Ends
