27 Jan 2021
Changing Lives, a non-governmental organisation based in Selebi-Phikwe has opened an orphanage centre to tackle challenges emanating from COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence and other social ills that the mining town is facing.
The organisation’s coordinator, Mr Wabuya Seisa said in an interview that they had created a practical tool to help combat poverty in Botshabelo, a densely populated and impoverished area, to improve the livelihood of orphans and vulnerable children.
He said Changing Lives was formed by intellects, entrepreneurs and politicians that grew up in the area to make meaningful impact in their community.
Mr Seisa thanked the Selebi Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) for securing a plot and providing building facilities in Botshabelo which houses the orphanage centre.
However, owing to dilapidated structures, Mr Seisa appealed to the local business community, stakeholders and well-wishers to come on board to assist in maintaining them.
He explained that they also planned to use the facility to mentor, tutor and counsel youth.
Furthermore, he explained that the organisation wished to work closely with the Social & Community Development (S&CD) by providing the necessary statistics in order to combat poverty meticulously, adding statistics would be beneficial to the council. ENDS
