A Mahetlwe man accused of murdering his girlfriend on January 20  was on January 22 arraigned before Molepolole senior magistrate Mr Ike Raphael.

Daniel Mogale (38) of Moroane ward at Mahetlwe allegedly murdered his 32-year-old girlfriend, Rosinah Amos by stabbing her with a sharp instrument.

The incident, according to Molepolole police station commander, was suspected to have occurred following a misunderstanding between the victim and the accused.

He said the matter was brought to the attention of police by neighbours on the fateful morning of January 20, but efforts to save the deceased bore no fruit as she was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Prosecutor, Inspector Thema Marumolwa opposed bail on the basis that investigations had just commenced as the offence was committed few days ago.

He told the court that the investigating team was still on the ground to collect evidence.

“We request extra time to ensure thorough investigations without the accused’s interference with possible prosecution witnesses since the offence committed was a serious one that carries capital punishment,” Inspector Marumolwa said.

In a related incident, Edwin Molelo of kgosing ward in Mmopane, accused of unlawfully wounding his girlfriend, pleaded for his release on bail.

His plea was dismissed by Molepolole Senior magistrate Kefilwe Resheng.

The accused allegedly stabbed  his girlfriend Kemmonye Batlhophang with sharp instrument at Gakgatla village on January 17, causing multiple wounds on her chest and back.

The accused had pleaded for his release saying he was remorseful.

Molelo pleaded for bail , saying he had three children whom he took care of and that he needed to take care of his livestock.

“I plead with the court to have mercy on me by granting me a conditional bail that I promise to fully abide by,” he pleaded.

The accused further highlighted that, the fact that he handed over himself to the police through the help of his father was a clear indication that he would continue to cooperate with the police going forward.

The prosecutor, Seargent Madirelo Batshedi objected to the accused’s bail request, arguing that he fled the scene after the incident until he was handed over to the police by his father five days later.

Sgt Batshedi indicated that investigations were still fresh therefore, the police needed more time.

The two prosecutors in the two matters, promised to avail Investigating officers during the next sitting to advance reasons why the two accused persons were to be denied bail ENDS
