24 Jan 2021

Compliance to COVID-19 health protocols remains critical in the fight against the virus.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting at Moshaweng on January 21, Member of Parliament for Letlhakeng/Lephephe constituency, Mr Liakat Kablay said hand sanitizing, wearing a mask and social distancing would curb the spread of the virus.

He said it was critical that all should comply with the health protocols so that the fight against COVID-19 could be won. Mr Kablay also said it was the responsibility of every Motswana to ensure that they helped government in winning the fight against the virus.

He said government had embarked on a rigorous fight against the virus by imposing lockdowns and curfews to minimise movement and ultimately curb the spread of the virus.

In addition, Mr Kablay said suspension of alcohol became handy as gatherings in alcohol outlets remained problematic and posed danger as super-spreaders. He said those who showed signs of COVID-19 should stay home and that health workers would come and test them and also assist their families accordingly.

The MP told residents that some development projects would be affected by COVID-19 as some funds had been transferred to help purchase medical and health apparatus needed to help those infected with the virus.

In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Kegobone Maruping said his people should understand the importance of compliance to COVID-19 protocols.

He said it was important that all should comply with the curfew stipulated times so that they did not decry charges when they were met by law enforcers at the wrong time.

Kgosi Maruping said as long as people did not have permits that allowed them to travel beyond stipulated hours, it meant trouble for those people.

On other issues, Kgosi Maruping decried lack of water in the village.

He said it was a challeng as they needed to wash their hands often. He added that if the water was not there, the virus would find room to spread among the people.

He urged Water Utilities Corporation to assist them with water as the situation had gone out of hand.

Giving a vote of thanks, Moshaweng councillor, Mr Keorang said he had been in talks with WUC management and that they had promised to address the water shortage in the village.

He said he was aware of the water situation in the village, and that WUC had been helping them with bowsing. He, however, said the water did not meet the needs of people.

He also noted that they were to acquire boreholes which would help provide water for the villagers. ENDS
