Township Rollers has hailed Mothusi Cooper’s move to join Zambian club, Lusaka Dynamos.
In an interview Monday, Rollers spokesperson, Bafana Pheto said Cooper’s move was a great achievement for Botswana football.
“The Zambian Super League is being broadcasted on Supersport and the channel is viewed worldwide, giving players opportunities to sell themselves to international clubs,” said Pheto.
He also noted that the Zambian Premiership has lots of connections internationally, stating that with a footballer of Cooper’s caliber, he would make it to the top of his career.
“The Zambian squad that won AFCON 2012 were all playing in international clubs in Europe and surely Cooper will make Botswana proud,” he said.
Pheto said it was time Botswana Football Association used Zambia and other countries to sell players rather than relying only on South Africa.
The Rollers spokesperson said Cooper would raise the good name of Township Rollers internationally because he would forever be a former player.
Cooper joined Rollers in 2018 from Extension Gunners, and made his debut for the Zebras in 2019. He played well against Zambia, making him Lusaka Dynamos favourite.
Pheto said they lost the instrumental midfielder who played well at club and international level. He said the clubs coach was planning to find his replacement during the current transfer window.
He said they were happy when players found greener pastures because it showed growth.
He further said Rollers would never block players’ growth if they were to join international football teams.
Pheto stated that finding a replacement for Cooper’s was a mountain to climb.
He said their contract with Cooper was due to end in May, and that they would reveal the transfer agreement between the club and Lusaka Dynamos.
The mercurial midfielder has signed a two-year deal with an option of one year to the Lusaka outfit.
The 23-year-old Cooper will become the first Motswana player to feature in the Zambian Super League. Ends
