Qangwa residents appeal for stable mobile network

18 Jan 2021

Residents of Qangwa have appealed to government to provide a stable mobile network between Qangwa and Nokaneng.

The issue was raised in a kgotla meeting recently. Residents said interrupted mobile network had always been a challenge for people travelling between Qangwa and Nokaneng.

Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Carterpillar Hikuama concurred with constituents on the issue, saying a stable mobile network was important in case people experienced vehicle breakdowns.

He noted that Qangwa had minimal economic activities and that the road had limited movement hence the need for a reliable mobile network.

On another issue, Mr Hikuama urged government to transfer officers who had overstayed, saying failure to do so affected officers performance and service delivery.

“The professional line between an officer who has overstayed and the people they are serving also becomes compromised,” said the MP.

In Xaixai, the MP encouraged parents to take their children’s education seriously, saying there was nothing more valuable than education.

He said there was no way to fight poverty and unemployment without education.

“For parents, village leadership, government and everyone, priority number one should be education. Lives cannot be improved without education,” said Mr Hikuama.

He also said it was upon parents to ensure that children went to school, and that if there was a problem, it was the responsibility of parents to find out why their children would not go to school.

On a different matter, Mr Hikuama commended the Department of Crop Production for their response to the outbreak of the African migratory locust.

He said the department’s preparedness was undoubted as five teams were deployed for surveillance and control of the locusts. Ends
