Ramotswa legislator donates school shoes

18 Jan 2021

Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Lefoko Moagi has donated school shoes to Camphill Community Trust.

The shoes are to be distributed among learners living with disability at the centre.

The centre provides education and training to people living with disabilities.

Handing over the shoes recently, Mr Moagi noted that Camphill Community Trust accommodated learners from different backgrounds and parts of the country, with some coming from underprivileged families.

Mr Moagi said although the shoes would not be for every learner, they would go a long way in comforting beneficiaries.

He said his constituency office had a friendship with the school, adding that Camphill Community Trust was always in their hearts.

Camphill Community Trust director, Mr Andreas Groth said the trust was proud to be part of Otse and the South East District community, adding that they had developed relations with the village leadership.

He said the donation, which comprised of 15 pairs for boys and 15 pairs for girls came in handy for the learners.

“It is a great gift for us, as we have pupils from needy families who struggle to have clothes and shoes to wear,” Mr Groth said.

He assured Mr Moagi, who is also Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, that the donation would reach deserving pupils.

Furthermore, he told the MP that the school had experienced COVID-19 directly and indirectly as some of its community tested positive. However, he said the school had been meeting the needs of the health protocol regulations.

He added that the school had plans to develop, but that it could not be realised due to budgetary constraints.

Mr Groth also noted that some of their structures were old and needed to be revamped, but that they faced financial challenges.

The director plead with communities around the country to support people living with disabilities, saying there was need to develop people living with disabilities.

Mr Groth highlighted that the ratification of the convention on the rights of people living with disabilities was taking too long. He said if rectified, it would change the lives of people living with disabilities.

In addition, he decried lack of consultation on the drafting of the policy on people living with disabilities. Ends
