Botswana Table Tennis team’s target of reaching the semifinals at the recent South African Table Tennis Championship in South Africa were dashed in the quarter final stage.

 The team had targeted to reach the semifinals. Three of the four players ended in the quarter finals, while the other one was eliminated at the group stages. In the quarter final matches, Tshepiso Rebatenne lost 1-3 to Lailaa Edwards in the women’s category.

As for the men’s quarter finalists, Boago Malobela was defeated 1-3 by Badat Ismail, Bakang Maloka lost 0-3 to Theo Cogill while in another women clash at group stages, Bakang Maloka lost 3-0 to Boipelo Mashwabi.   

According to team manager, Sedireng Tapa, the expectation was for at least two players to qualify for the semifinal stage more so that they were facing South African players, whom they are used to playing against.
