Twenty government pool houses unoccupied

20 Dec 2020

A total of 20 government pool house in Gaborone Bonnington South are unoccupied as they are at various stages of maintenance, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development Mr Mmusi Kgafela has said.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Minister Kgafela said 12 of the houses were in Kgale View, six in Phase VI and two in Block 9. He agreed that leaving the houses unoccupied exposed them to vandalism which could result in incurring costs. He noted that it was the ministry’s endeavor to carryout maintenance at the earliest possible time once houses were vacated.

He said while turnaround times was four weeks for major maintenance, they encountered challenges sticking to the turnaround times. He said his ministry was aware that public servants across the country, Gaborone Bonnington South included were in need of accommodation, and this was partly evidenced by the eligible 3 560 who were in pool housing waiting list in Gaborone.

Gaborone Bonnington South MP, Mr Christian Greeff had asked the minister to state the number of unoccupied houses in his constituency and the number of public servants who were in need of accommodation and costs incurred as a result of vandalism. ends
