JCI Botswana inducts new leaders

13 Dec 2020

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Botswana has installed Ms Rosemary Mothusi its new board president for the year 2021.

She took over from Mr Gomolemo Tshutlhedi, whose term has ended.

The induction of the new board was hosted by JCI Lobatse on December 12 under the theme; Service to Humanity for Sustainable Impact.

In her inauguration speech, Ms Mothusi, who works as a clinical dietician at Athlone Hospital, promised to take the organisation one step higher during her term of office.

“JCI has proudly served local communities all over the world for more than 100 years. Each year we prepare and equip ourselves for another mission-driven year. Our mission is to provide development opportunities that empower young active citizens to create sustainable competences in their communities. I am positive that 2021 is going to be a great year for JCI Botswana,” she said.

Mr Benson Motswetla was appointed executive vice president, while Mr Tumelo Rannau was appointed vice president.

The JCI is a non-governmental organisation of young people around the world, which aims to empower young people to create positive change.

Outgoing president, Mr Tshutlhedi said their activities in 2020 were affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. However, he said through team work they managed to execute a number of projects.

He further said the organisation faced financial constraints, but managed to forge ahead through team work and collaboration with past members and senators.

Woodhall ward councillor, Mr Thebe Baile said organisations such as JCI could bring a lot of positive change to the society. He therefore urged members of JCI Botswana to use the mission of their organisation as inspiration to bring a positive change in the country.

“We have a vital role to play as agents of hope. Amid the stark negativity that has doomed our daily collective sub-conscious these days, the world needs more inspiration, performance, optimism and heart. You as change agents should serve as light to others for them to know the importance of serving humanity,” he said.

He thanked them for the activities that they have implemented over the years that illustrate service to humanity.

These, he said, included the ‘sanitary towel challenge’ which saw sanitary towels collected and donated to schools in Lobatse.

“Also, the donate-a-tree campaign project in which JCI Lobatse, alongside their partners planted 55 trees at Athlone on the International Day for Forests, with the aim of combatting climate change. Thirdly, JCI donated masks, sanitizers, and toiletries to people with disabilities,” Mr Baile said. ends
