Policy does not recognise police officers as technicians
13 Dec 2020
The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Kagiso Mmusi says the Public Service Management Directive No 2 of 2008 on Attraction and Retention Policy for the Public Service, does not recognise police officers as technicians.
Responding to question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament of Palapye Mr Onneetse Ramogapi, he said his ministry had police officers from the Criminal Records Bureau deployed countrywide.
He noted that the police officers were not paid scarce skills allowance because their qualifications were not listed under the Public Service Management Directive No 2 of 2008, on Attraction and Retention Policy for the Public Service.
He indicated that the length of their engagement on actual deployment differed according to the bureau they were deployed at.
Mr Ramogapi had asked the minister to state the total number of police officers in the Criminal Records Bureau country wide and state if such officers were recognized as qualified technicians who qualified for scarce skills allowance. ENDS
