Botswana community abroad donate

13 Dec 2020

A group of Batswana living in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland have raised P15 000 to support Linchwe Junior School boarding pupils who are living with visual and physical challenges, and some with learning disabilities.

Speaking in a ceremony meant to hand over the gift in Mochudi December 10, their representative, Ms Tseleng Sekgopi said COVID-19 pandemic had stretched education and social services in the country, worsening the pupils’ challenges, leading to emotional distress and a feeling of isolation on the part of the pupils.

She said they therefore found it fit to support the concerned group as they were the most vulnerable and experienced disparities as government could not win this mammoth task alone.

Ms Tseleng said their key objective was to assist the school authorities to meet some of the pupils’ basic needs.

“We have managed to raise P15 000 and donate some gifts to the students to minimise the stress and pressures they encounter,” she said, adding that they hoped to continue helping those in need to empower them to have confidence, make them feel a sense of belonging and maximise their mental, physical health and well-being. ends
