Land board aims to improve service delivery

10 Dec 2020

Kweneng Land Board is to come up with a document in two months to facilitate land allocation.

This was said by the newly appointed Kweneng Land Board chairperson, Mr Kgang Kgang in his opening speech at the board’s ongoing sitting.  It is hoped the document will help address issues of allocation of land for unique projects, elimination of backlog applications, delegation of authority and urgent applications.

Also the document is anticipated to enhance the way the board has been carrying out its business and thereby improve service delivery.

Mr Kgang has further told board members that his office would prioritise stakeholder engagements with emphasis on Bogosi.  So far, the land board chairperson said he had managed to engage with Dikgosi as tribal leaders in a meet and greet session to appreciate concerns in their areas of jurisdiction.

He however noted that in these meet and greet sessions Dikgosi raised issues of concern that hampered service delivery.

Among them the land board chair cited that lack of consultation and transparency in land matters.

Delayed allocation of plots and ploughing fields and illegal land occupation was also a cause for concern in Kweneng, he noted.

Mr Kgang further said village sprawl as a result of not utilising empty spaces within the built-up areas was one of the challenges common in the district.

He therefore said the concerns called for hard work and team work among members.

Going forward Mr Kgang said in order to resolve some of the issues, the land board was going to consult Bogosi before allocations were done such that the list of those eligible for allocation were put on  notice boards at the kgotla.

He said the lists would enable Dikgosi to assist the land board in any investigations and report any illegal activities.

Mr Kgang emphasised that he intended to enhance the relationship between land board and the district council to facilitate developments in the district.

Meanwhile new land board members were urged by the deputy land board chair, Mr Moemedi Babitseng to familiarise themselves with statutes and procedures at the land tribunal. Ends
