Forestry department beautifies Moeding College

The department of forestry and range resources in South East District has planted 125 trees of different species at Moeding College, in Otse.
The occasion, which marked the district tree planting day encompassed planting of fruit trees, decorative and shade trees.
Speaking at the event, the Department of Forestry and Range Resources District Coordinator, Mr Major Sindisa said event fell within the department’s mandate of raising awareness about the importance of trees.
He said the world was faced with consequences of global warming and as such trees could play an important role in mitigating against these effects.
He therefore made an appeal to institutions which had open spaces to come forward so that the department could assist them to plant trees.
Further, Mr Sindisa pleaded with contractors to avoid cutting down trees when undertaking their projects, adding that trees which do not interfere with constructions should not be removed.
Apart from helping to curb deforestation, Mr Sindisa observed that trees were a source of living as some people depended on them for a living.
Moeding College deputy school head, Mr Shedrack Tafa thanked the department for their good gesture.
He said trees were windbreakers and provided oxygen hence the need to plant them in abundance.
Mr Tafa noted that planting trees at Moeding College signified the department’s desire to improve lives through good vegetation.
Performance Coordinator from the Office of the District Commissioner, Ms Keabetswe Maemo also commended the department of forestry and range resources for planting trees at the school.
She said some trees were removed during the construction of the teacher’s houses, hence there was a dire need to replace them.
Ms Maemo said apart from planting trees, the department of forestry and range resources provided knowledge on caring for trees.
She further thanked the department for preserving indigenous trees through their campaigns. The event was held under the theme: Forest Restoration, a Path to Recovery and Well-being. Ends
