The roof and associated works of Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown was delayed due to budgetary constraints.

This was said by Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development, Mr Buti Billy when answering a question in Parliament on Monday.

He said the ministry had included the project as part of the estimates for consideration during allocation of funds for the 2021/22 financial year. “If this request is approved, the project will start in 2021,” he said.

Mr Billy said the project could have started in 2018, but the funds originally allocated to it had to be diverted to the fight against COVID-19.

Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the assistant minister to explain the delay in putting up a roof and associated works at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.

The legislator also wanted the assistant minister to state when the project would commence. Ends
