Local waste management company, Cleaning Wizards has fenced Ramotswa old cemeteries.
The project, which started in 2015 at a cost of P418 000 was handed over to Gamalete leadership on December 3.
Kgosi Mosadi Seboko commended the gesture and said there was need for the community to take care of the graveyards.
She encouraged tribesmen to follow on the footsteps of Cleaning Wizards and care for the graves of their departed family members.
She said Gamalete regiments had an initiative of cleaning cemeteries and she called the community to come on board.
Kgosi Mosadi further said the community could ignore their dead ones, whilst time and again, Gamalete tribesmen descend to Otse to consult their ancestors. Balete paramount chief said Christianity should not make people disown their ancestors.
Area Member of Parliament and Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Lefoko Moagi said the cemetery, which was now in the midst of the village were closed around 2015 because there was no more space.
He said since their closure, residents continued to trespass through the cemetery going to other parts of the village and relieved themselves in the cemeteries.
Therefore, he said the fence would deter trespassing through the graveyards. Further, Mr Moagi said there was a need for the community to find ways of disposing of the dead ones.
He said the community should start a conversation on burying practices and explore other means such as cremation and sharing of graves.
“In no time even Disana cemeteries would be full, our children also need residential plots.” he added. Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe commended Cleaning Wizards for their gesture.
He said the company had a good corporate social responsibility initiative, noting that the company had built a house for a destitute person in Boteti.
Further, he said the company often embarked on free community education campaigns on waste management.
Cleaning Wizards managing director Mr Odirile Monare said the project started in 2015 as a way of giving back to the community, as they were employed by south east south sub-council. He said it was upon companies to give back to the community as government alone could not develop the country. Ends
