Ipelegeng participants work as cleaners

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele has told Parliament that 289 Ipelegeng participants had been engaged as cleaners for Selebi Phikwe’s primary and secondary schools.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Modukanele said the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) had been done and it was ongoing.
He also noted that the cleaners were provided with a dress, two piece overalls, safety boots, gum boots, PVC gloves and hats. Furthermore, he said the ministry was undertaking a holistic re-engineering of the Ipelegeng Programme, including the review of allowances for the beneficiaries.
Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had wanted to know the number of Ipelegeng participants engaged for cleaning schools in Selebi Phikwe.
He also wanted to know if they had been provided with enough PPEs, what they had been provided with and if he would consider better pay or an allowance for the Ipelegeng participants, considering the peculiarities of their work.ENDS
