Two roads not in development plan

02 Dec 2020

The Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Peggy Serame, says the upgrading of Tshimoyapula/Majwanaadipitse and Serule/Gojwane roads to bitumen status has not been included in the current National Development Plan (NDP11).

Ms Serame, who was answering a question in Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Communications, said the ministry did not have funds to upgrade the two roads to bitumen standards, adding that consideration for their upgrade will be done along with other national priorities in future.

She noted that the ministry would continue doing routine maintenance of the roads by regular grading to ensure that they were in good condition. She said the roads were last graded in July 2020.

“The ministry plans to undertake the interim grading of Tshimoyapula/Majwanaadipitse road during the week of December 7 – 11 and the Serule/Gojwane road on December 17 – 18,” she said.

Minister Serame said the Department of Roads was in the process of obtaining tender approval for a one-year contract for the monthly maintenance plan.

Serowe North MP Mr Baratiwa Mathoothe had wanted an update on the upgrading of Tshimoyapula/Majwanaadipitse and Serule/Gojwane roads to bitumen standard.
