Cresta hotels to plant indigenous trees
30 Nov 2020
Cresta hotels will plant around 1 500 indigenous trees in their centres across Botswana as part of their corporate social responsibilities and contribution to a greener society.
Speaking during the commemoration of the National Tree Planting Day in Gaborone recently, Cresta Marakanelo Hotel general manager, Mr Greg Soutter said their bid to plant trees was in line with this year’s theme: Forest Restoration - a Path to Recovery and Wellbeing.
He also said planting trees was one of the easiest ways to reduce and manage the effects of pollution across the country, noting that everyone had to do the best they could to keep the planet greener.
He expressed the company’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of societies in which it operates, noting the importance of keeping good relationships as critical to its success.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB) Mr Joseph Motse appreciated Cresta for their commitment to environmental awareness.
He said this was a right step in their path to the inclusion of corporate responsiveness to priority issues.
He said efforts by Cresta were important for semi-desert countries like Botswana, where trees and clean healthy habitats played a critical role in the lives of citizens.
Kgosi Oageng Masole of Naledi also congratulated the hotel for their contributions to the environment.
He said the planting of indigenous trees by the hotel was important in the preservation of homogenous plant culture.
He noted that because of the contributions of big corporate organisations such as Cresta in social investments, the country could benefit largely as they had the power to sway public decision and influence consumption patterns.
Kgosi Masole thanked Cresta for being a good corporate citizen, something he said was demonstrable through their numerous acts of goodwill to the community. ends
